CoolSculpting vs Liposuction – which works better?
It’s a very common question patients ask us at Trifecta Med Spa NYC. So, we want to highlight some key differences between those two procedures.
CoolSculpting vs Liposuction: Both procedures are designed to remove unwanted excess fat. The fundamental difference between CoolSculpting and liposuction lies in the treatment approach and the degree of invasiveness involved.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that vacuums excess fat deposits from under the skin. The patient must be agreeable to undergo local anesthesia for liposuction.
CoolSculpting is non-invasive FDA approved procedure, which remove unwanted fat using a cooling technique called Cryolipolysis.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure, therefore, there are possible risks involved. Swelling and some bruising is expected after surgery, but with CoolSculpting there is NO DOWNTIME! So, you can get back to your normal routine right after treatment.
More aggressive results can be achieved with liposuction than CoolSculpting as a greater percentage of fat can be removed in a broader area in one treatment, but after liposuction it may take a several months before the swelling subsides to notice the final outcome. CoolSculpting will eliminate 20-25% of the fat cells in the treated areas permanently. The patient can start seeing results within a few weeks, and improvement will continue to happen for up to three to six months.
The best candidate for CoolSculpting have small to moderate unwanted fat deposits in well defined areas of the body. Patient with excess fat that is not well localized or patient who want more significant results and is willing to undergo surgery may be better candidate for liposuction.
While both procedures have been effective at eliminating excess fat from the body, CoolSculpting offers a unique alternative to liposuction with no recovery time and no scarring for the typical patient.
